EU Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 16, 2026
This EU Cookie Policy explains how lookouthereicome.com ("LOHIC," "we") uses cookies and similar technologies for visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and Switzerland. It should be read with our Privacy Policy. Last updated: July 16, 2026.
1. Legal Framework (2026)
Cookie use in the EU remains governed by the ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)) together with the GDPR. In practice, storing or accessing information on your device (cookies, pixels, certain localStorage uses, and similar trackers) requires prior consent unless the technology is strictly necessary to provide a service you explicitly requested. Legitimate interest under GDPR does not replace ePrivacy consent for non-essential device storage/access. Analytics, advertising (including Google AdSense), and most social embeds are not "strictly necessary" and require opt-in before they run. Consent must be freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous - with Accept and Reject choices equally easy (no pre-ticked boxes; rejecting must be as simple as accepting).
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, and local storage. On LOHIC they may support security, remember your cookie choice, measure recipe-page traffic, or - only after consent - enable personalized or non-personalized advertising next to garlic olive oil recipes and product pages.
3. Categories We Use
Strictly necessary
Required for basic Site operation and security, and to store your cookie preference so we can honor Accept/Reject. These do not require consent but are disclosed here.
Preferences / functional
Optional features that remember choices beyond consent storage. These require consent before use.
Analytics / performance
Tools such as Google Analytics (if enabled) help us understand which LOHIC recipe clusters (chicken, steak, pasta, fish, pork) and product pages are used. These require prior consent.
Advertising / marketing
Google AdSense and related ad vendors may set cookies to serve and measure ads. These require prior consent. Until you Accept, non-essential ad scripts remain blocked by our consent banner.
4. Prior Blocking and Your Choices
On your first visit, a banner offers Accept and Reject non-essential. Non-essential scripts do not load before your choice. Your decision is stored in localStorage so the banner does not reappear every page load. You can reopen choices via "Cookie settings" in the footer. Withdrawal of consent is as easy as giving it.
5. Google AdSense and Third Parties
If advertising is enabled after consent, Google and other ad vendors may process device identifiers and browsing data as described in Google partner sites policy. LOHIC recipe and product content may appear alongside ads; ads are not LOHIC culinary advice.
6. Data Controller and Rights
For cookie-related personal data, contact LOHIC at Nathan@LookOutHereICome.com. You may request access, deletion, restriction, or objection, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. See the Privacy Policy for full rights details.
7. Transfers and Retention
Processing may occur on U.S. infrastructure. Cookie lifetimes vary by vendor; consent records are kept as needed to demonstrate compliance. Strictly necessary preference cookies last until you clear storage or reset settings.
8. Updates
We may update this Policy to reflect legal or Site changes. The date at the top is the latest revision. Related: USA Cookie Policy, Do Not Sell or Share.
LOHIC publishes garlic olive oil recipes and product information from Boulder, Colorado. Cookie controls exist so European visitors can enjoy cooking content while deciding whether advertising and analytics technologies may run.
9. Examples on This Site
Necessary example: storing lohic_cookie_consent in localStorage so we know whether AdSense tags may load. Advertising example: Google cookies used for ad delivery on a spaghetti aglio e olio recipe page after Accept. Analytics example: aggregated counts of visits to /recipes/ or steak recipe URLs after Accept. We do not treat scrolling or closing the banner as consent.
10. Children
The Site is not directed at children under 16 for consent purposes under GDPR. Do not enable advertising cookies on shared devices used by children without appropriate adult decisions.
